Your words reveal you... Speak so we may know you
Words possess a strange magic and a wondrous power. Some live by their words, while others die by them.
Words can bring you comfort, peace, tranquility, and serenity, earning you the trust and respect of others. You often hear people described as “a man of his word,” meaning a man who stands by what he says.
True, words are merely a combination of letters, but they have the power to shape or destroy you. They are the fundamental key to forming our personalities, our reality, and our relationships, wielding a tremendous influence capable of building or dismantling societies.
Many have tied their lives to a single word, earning the honor of dying for it. Conversely, many others have been ensnared by a careless word, paying a heavy price for it.

Perhaps some harsh words leave scars on your soul that no one else sees, remaining forever etched in your heart.
Some words plunge you into a sea of insecurity; others instill deadly doubt; some tear you apart; some make you feel worthless; some make you kind; some increase your sensitivity; some transform you from open to withdrawn. Words spoken can heal something or break something.
Words have a profound and destructive impact. Once uttered and heard by others, they cannot be erased or retracted. Therefore, we must think deeply and pause before speaking.
Kind and positive words build bridges, foster trust, and deepen love among people. In contrast, harsh or hurtful words destroy and demolish, potentially ending relationships that lasted for years in mere seconds.
We must choose our words wisely, selecting what is beneficial and good, in accordance with the timeless Arabic wisdom: “A person is defined by two things: his heart and his tongue.” If the heart is pure, the tongue becomes pure, for it is the faithful translator of what resides within the chest.
Today, social media has overshadowed our lives, becoming a arena for dialogue and exchange of ideas, and an open field for anyone and everyone. I often feel deep regret over the level of language used, the topics of discussion, the shocking expressions, the fanaticism, the hostility, and the rejection of others. These platforms have revealed the extent of awareness and the low level of some participants through their words and expressions.
We return to the beginning to emphasize that words are not merely sounds uttered, but a driving force and an expression of a person’s character, knowledge, and understanding.
In the past, Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I would still hold a man in awe until he spoke; if he spoke, he would fall from my esteem, or elevate himself in my eyes.”
Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Men are closed boxes, with speech as their keys.” Before them, the renowned Greek philosopher Socrates said: “Let me hear you speak, so that I may see you.”
