Arab League Secretary-General condemns Iranian attack on Jordan and warns against sliding into an open war

- Fahmy: Gulf and Jordanian security are an integral part of Arab national security

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy condemned on Wednesday Iran’s ballistic missile attack on Jordan, warning of the consequences of the region sliding into an open war.

In a statement, Fahmy said, “Iran’s continued escalation against Gulf states and several Arab countries could push the entire region toward a war that would undermine any diplomatic efforts to contain the escalation through negotiation.”

He added that Iran’s continued reckless behavior and its attempt to expand conflict fronts would entrench hostilities with neighboring Arab countries for decades to come, in addition to its dangerous repercussions on the regional security architecture.

He emphasized that the security and stability of Arab Gulf states and Jordan constitute an integral part of Arab national security, calling on Iran to abandon its hostile policy toward Arab countries and to adhere to the principles of good neighborliness and relevant international charters.

He reaffirmed the League’s full solidarity with Jordan, its steadfast support for the country, and its backing of all measures taken by Jordan to preserve its sovereignty and safeguard its security and stability.
