Kuwait welcomes move by 12 countries to restrict trade with goods from Israeli settlements

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs”: The steps enhance efforts toward a two-state solution and confront settlement policies that violate international law

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Kuwait’s welcome for the announcement by Canada, the Kingdom of Denmark, the Republic of Finland, the French Republic, Iceland, Ireland, the Kingdom of Norway, the Republic of Poland, the Portuguese Republic, the Kingdom of Spain, the Kingdom of Sweden, and the United Kingdom of their intention to take national measures or support European restrictions on trade in goods from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, or to consider adopting such measures and others in accordance with their national procedures, in support of international efforts aimed at implementing a two-state solution.

The Ministry stated in a statement issued today, Tuesday, that these steps come within the context of the growing international momentum achieved through the recognition by a number of countries of the independent State of Palestine, thereby enhancing the path toward realizing the Palestinian State on the ground.

It emphasized the importance of these steps in confronting the Israeli occupation’s settlement policies that violate international law and resolutions of international legitimacy, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, calling on more countries to adopt similar measures, and reiterating Kuwait’s firm rejection of attempts to annex Palestinian territories and the forced displacement of the brotherly Palestinian people from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

The Ministry reaffirmed Kuwait’s steadfast position supporting the inalienable rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, foremost among which is the establishment of their independent state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
