Independent Authority for Cooperative Societies
Clearly, it would be desirable for the government to establish an independent body for cooperative societies. These societies constitute the largest consumer sector for citizens, and creating such a body would aim to alleviate the administrative, supervisory, and regulatory burdens currently placed on the ministry, while developing the performance of the cooperative sector.
The proposal aims to create an entity capable of absorbing the scale and operations of cooperative societies, separating them from the ministry. This entity would be responsible for direct executive supervision of the societies, monitoring their activities, and enhancing governance within them, thereby ensuring their stability and eradicating the corruption that has flourished in recent years. The ministry has shouldered considerable effort in follow-up and in issuing regulatory decisions.
Furthermore, supervising more than 60 cooperative societies across the country has imposed a significant burden on the ministry, in addition to its core responsibilities in social welfare and development.

The proposal also strengthens the state’s vision to develop the cooperative sector as a key partner in providing goods at reasonable prices and supporting food security. The independent body is also expected to contribute to enforcing transparency and combating violations within the legal and regulatory framework, complementing the decisions issued by the minister, such as those by Minister Amal Al-Hawila, whose efforts in this field are appreciated.
The ministry has currently decided to link cooperative societies digitally to a unified supervision system. Establishing this independent body would bring greater discipline to the management and investment of cooperative societies, a proposal that could significantly contribute to ensuring the stability of the cooperatives.

There is the Al-Safaher Market building, as well as the Small Projects building in Shuwaikh. We hope that relevant authorities will utilize these facilities instead of neglecting them, as they are currently filled with waste and debris, and the surrounding areas contain significant amounts of construction waste, posing security risks in their current state.
