24 Players in First Training Session of 'The Blues' in Preparation for 'Gulf Cup 27'
Portuguese coach Helio Sousa of the national team has selected 27 players for the Blue Team’s squad to compete in the 27th Gulf Cup, hosted by the Saudi city of Jeddah from September 23 to October 6.
The squad includes Khaled Al-Rashidi, Saud Al-Houshan, Abdulrahman Al-Fadli, Rakan Al-Saeed, Fahad Al-Hajri, Khaled Sabah, Youssef Al-Haqan, Abdulaziz Naji, Wahab Al-Awadi, Rashid Al-Dosari, Muath Al-Dhafiri, Mohsen Fallah, Reza Hani, Ahmed Al-Dhafiri, Khaled Al-Murshed, Jassem Al-Mutairi, Adabi Shahab, Abdullah Al-Qarazi, Nasser Falah, Mehdi Dashti, Eid Al-Rashidi, Youssef Majed, Mohammed Daham, Mubarak Al-Funaynis, Abdullah Al-Awadi, Shuaib Al-Khalidi, and Youssef Nasser.

The national team began its training sessions yesterday evening at the Ali Al-Salem Stadium, with another session scheduled for today at the same venue. The Blue Team delegation will depart for Doha tomorrow, Wednesday, for a short training camp before leaving for Jeddah next Monday to join a training camp that will last until the start of the tournament, which includes a friendly match against the Yemeni national team on September 18.
The draw placed the Blue Team in Group A alongside Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Iraq. They will open their campaign in the tournament’s opening match against the Saudi Green Team on September 23, face Iraq in the second round on September 26, and conclude their group stage matches against Oman on September 29. Group B comprises Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Yemen.
Twenty-four players participated in the first training session. Saud Al-Houshan was absent due to personal circumstances, while Rakan Al-Saeed and Abdullah Al-Qarazi missed the session as they are participating in the ongoing Asian Cup qualifiers in Cambodia.
Coach Sousa made it a point to meet with the players before the start of training, urging them to exert maximum effort in the coming period to achieve the desired positive results.
Kuwaiti players will miss the Doha training camp due to their clubs’ matches against the UAE’s Al-Ittihad Club on September 16 in the second edition of the AFC Champions League Two. They will join the national team in Jeddah.
