Turkey contains forest fires in Mugla and Antalya and continues firefighting operations

- With the participation of 7 aircraft, 13 helicopters, and hundreds of personnel

Turkey’s General Directorate of Forestry announced on Monday that it has gained “significant control” over wildfires that broke out in the provinces of Mugla and Antalya in the southwest of the country over the past few days.

In a post on the X platform, the directorate stated that it had largely contained the fire in the Menteşe district of Mugla following intensive aerial and ground operations, while continuing aerial and ground efforts to contain the blazes burning in Menteşe and Sirek in Antalya.

It added that firefighting efforts are also ongoing in the Bozcaada area of the neighboring province of Burdur, adjacent to Antalya and Mugla, through aerial and ground operations.

A fire broke out on Sunday in a forested area in the town of Menteşe in Mugla province, southwestern Turkey, before rapidly spreading due to strong winds to the Armutçuk neighborhood in the neighboring town of Ula. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

According to the Turkish Anadolu Agency, 7 aircraft, 13 helicopters, 32 fire trucks, 7 bulldozers, 62 water tankers, 12 construction machines, and 232 personnel are participating in the firefighting efforts, while 11 ambulances support evacuation operations.
