'Ministry of Health': Launch of the Retinal and Vitreous Surgery Unit in the Ophthalmology Department at Al-Jahra Hospital

The Ministry of Health inaugurated the Retina and Vitreous Surgery Unit in the Ophthalmology Department at Al-Jahra Hospital, coinciding with the successful performance of the first precise and complex retinal surgery at the hospital. This step aims to develop and expand ophthalmology and eye surgery services in Kuwait.
Dr. Ahmed Fahad Al-Fudari, Chairman of the Ophthalmology Departments Council at the Ministry of Health, emphasized that the inauguration of the unit completes the Council’s vision to provide comprehensive therapeutic and specialized services in ophthalmology and eye surgery across all regions of the country. This initiative enhances the geographical distribution of specialized services, facilitating patient access and improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare provided.
Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Attiyah successfully performed the first precise retinal surgery at Al-Jahra Hospital, marking the commencement of retina and vitreous surgery services at the facility. This effort is part of broader initiatives to bring specialized medical services closer to patients and reduce the need to transfer cases to other hospitals.
Dr. Al-Fudari praised the medical and organizational efforts undertaken by Dr. Hussein Al-Ansari, Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Al-Jahra Hospital, in preparing for the launch of the unit and equipping the department to deliver this type of precise specialized surgery.
He also commended the support and cooperation of Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Shamari, Head of the Medical Staff at Al-Jahra Hospital, and his contribution to overcoming obstacles and facilitating the necessary procedures to initiate the unit’s operations, highlighting the importance of integration between medical administration and specialized departments in enhancing the level of services provided to patients.
Dr. Al-Fudari clarified that the inauguration of the Retina and Vitreous Surgery Unit represents a qualitative addition to the ophthalmology and eye surgery service system at Al-Jahra Hospital, and constitutes a new step within the Ministry of Health’s plan to develop and expand the provision of precise medical services in its hospitals. This initiative aims to enhance access to specialized care and elevate its quality and efficiency.
