Oman: 16 crew members of Saudi tanker 'Sidr' evacuated after attack off Musandam Governorate

The Omani Maritime Security Center announced the evacuation of 16 crew members from the Saudi oil tanker “Sidr,” which was attacked by a projectile off the coast of Musandam Governorate, in an incident that left two crew members dead.

In a statement posted on the “X” platform, the center said that relevant authorities had completed their support and assistance missions for the “Sidr,” which flies the flag of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, after it was struck by a projectile two nautical miles northwest of Musandam Governorate.

It added that one of the Sultan of Oman’s Navy ships provided logistical support to the tanker’s 25-member crew, evacuating 16 of them and providing necessary medical care. The incident resulted in the deaths of two crew members.

The “Sidr,” owned by Al Bahri Shipping Company, was one of two large tankers carrying Saudi oil that news reports said were attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz last Monday.

Saudi Arabia announced last Wednesday that the attack on the tanker resulted in the deaths of two Filipino sailors.
