10 killed, 64 injured in fireworks explosion in Mexico

At least 10 people were killed and 64 others injured in an explosion of fireworks materials during a religious celebration in the town of Temoaya, in the State of Mexico, local authorities announced.

The Associated Press reported that the blast occurred near the Nuestra Señora de la Luz church, as hundreds of people were preparing to watch a fireworks display as part of religious festivities in the area.

Mexican media, citing State of Mexico authorities, said that fireworks stored in an indoor space used as a warehouse exploded, causing part of the building and an adjacent wall to collapse and trapping victims under the rubble.

The injured were transported to several medical facilities for treatment. Local reports indicated that two priests were among the injured and that their conditions are not life-threatening.
