Algeria: Tragic end to the rescue of child Ayoub... His body recovered after four days inside the well

The Algerian Civil Protection announced on Saturday evening that the child Ayoub had been found and retrieved deceased from the dry artesian well into which he had fallen in the El Bayadh province, bringing an end to a rescue operation that had lasted four days.

In a statement, the Civil Protection said: “Following the rescue operation for a child who fell into a dry artesian well in the location known as Rukna Village, in the municipality of Gassouline, El Bayadh province, the child’s location has now been identified and he has been retrieved deceased.”

The agency added: “On behalf of the Director General and all personnel, the Civil Protection extends its deepest condolences and sympathies to the family and relatives of the deceased, praying to Almighty God to grant him His abundant mercy and to grant his family and relatives the strength of patience and solace.”

The Civil Protection affirmed that it had mobilized, alongside local authorities and all relevant bodies and private individuals, all human and material resources for the rescue operation.

Civil Protection teams had continued digging and attempting to reach the child over four days, despite the challenging nature of the well and the soil conditions, before announcing on Saturday evening that he had been found and retrieved deceased.
