A historic event that could bring Messi and Ronaldo together in the same team

The farewell match for Argentine star Carlos Tevez could feature a rare football spectacle if his old plan to bring Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo together on the same team succeeds, although the participation of the two stars in the anticipated event remains unconfirmed so far.

ESPN and Argentine media reported that Tevez has contacted Boca Juniors president Juan Román Riquelme to organize his retirement match at La Bombonera stadium next December. The exact date of the match has not yet been finalized, with the second half of the month being favored.

According to TYC Sports, Tevez is aiming to gather around 60 football personalities for the occasion. One team will include his friends from football and outside the sport, while the other will feature players he previously played alongside during his career. The names of Messi and Ronaldo are among the most prominent potential invitees, though neither has confirmed their participation as of now.

Tevez had revealed in an interview with the Olé platform in April 2025 his desire to have Messi and Ronaldo on the same team during his farewell match, emphasizing at the time that he wanted both stars to attend and that he was willing to personally go persuade Ronaldo to participate.

Tevez played alongside Messi for the Argentine national team, while he played next to Ronaldo at Manchester United, making him one of the few players who shared the pitch with both stars during his career.

Tevez officially announced his retirement from football in June 2022, after playing his last match for Boca Juniors in 2021, before moving into coaching. During his three stints with Boca Juniors, he played 279 matches, scored 94 goals, and won 11 titles.

Thus, organizing the farewell match at La Bombonera in December is currently underway, while bringing Messi and Ronaldo together on the same team remains a plan Tevez wishes to realize, with their participation still unconfirmed.
