US Defense Secretary: If Iran fires on our ships, we will destroy and sink its oil tankers

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said on Saturday that the United States would destroy and sink Iranian oil tankers if Tehran fired on US ships.

Hegseth wrote in a post on the “X” platform: “It’s simple: If Iran fires on US ships, we will destroy and sink their tankers,” adding that all Iran needs to do is refrain from firing on the US Navy.

Hegseth described Iran’s fleet of oil tankers as “defenseless,” asserting that Iran lacks naval or air forces to protect them, and that US aircraft, ships, and submarines are capable of targeting them.

Hegseth’s remarks came after US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces had attacked three Iranian crude oil tankers, in response to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard firing ballistic missiles at two US Navy warships.
