Egyptian and Omani Foreign Ministers Discuss Efforts to Contain Current Regional Tensions in Phone Call

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Badr Abdelatty held a telephone conversation with his Omani counterpart, Badr Al Busaidi, to discuss developments in the regional landscape and efforts to contain current tensions.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement on Saturday that Abdelatty emphasized during the call the priority of halting escalation and avoiding any steps that could exacerbate tensions and threaten the security and stability of the region. He stressed the necessity of creating space for diplomatic efforts, considering them the optimal path to address the root causes of the crisis.

Abdelatty also underscored the importance of returning to negotiations between the United States and Iran in accordance with the (Islamabad) memorandum of understanding, building upon it as a framework that enables addressing outstanding issues through dialogue and negotiation.

The call, according to the statement, also touched upon developments in the Strait of Hormuz and their implications for regional security and the global economy. Both ministers emphasized the necessity of preserving the security and safety of maritime navigation and ensuring the smooth flow of trade and energy supplies.
