Lebanon receives four prisoners from the Israeli occupation

Lebanon announced on Friday that it had received four prisoners, held by the Israeli occupation, through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

A convoy from the ICRC headed to the town of Naqoura at the Ras Naqoura border crossing in the south to receive the four prisoners from the Israeli occupation, and subsequently handed them over to the Lebanese Army in the Mansouri area, south of Sidon.

In a statement, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun expressed his gratitude for all efforts and initiatives undertaken, particularly those by the United States under the leadership of its President Donald Trump, as well as international bodies, foremost among them the ICRC, which led to the release of the first batch of Lebanese detainees by the Israeli occupation government today.

Aoun considered this first step as “reaffirming the viability of Lebanon’s firm stance, encompassing all its components, as well as the necessity to complete the required steps outlined in the trilateral framework, leading to the full restoration of Lebanese sovereignty, without ceding an inch of our land or losing a single person from our people.” The Lebanese president extended congratulations on the freedom of the released prisoners, as well as to their families and relatives, reiterating the commitment to “continue the struggle to achieve all national demands and objectives, so that all Lebanese may live with dignity in a free homeland where no weapon exists on its soil except that of its legitimate forces, and where no sovereignty over its citizens exists except that of its protective, guaranteeing, capable, and just state.”

Lebanon signed a trilateral framework agreement last June 26 with the United States and the Israeli occupation, following the conclusion of the fifth round of Lebanese-Israeli talks mediated by the United States in Washington.

The agreement included provisions concerning the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation, the return of displaced persons and detainees, as well as the repatriation of Lebanese bodies held by the occupation.
