US Treasury Secretary: We will sever all ties linking the Iranian regime to the world and target every entity that deals with it

Unprecedented sanctions targeting aviation, the maritime sector, and digital assets aim to isolate Tehran and strangle its economy.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that the United States is proceeding with the imposition of unprecedented sanctions on Iran, warning countries and entities dealing with the Iranian regime against continuing to provide any support to it.

In remarks to Fox News, Bessent stated that his message to everyone is to “stay away from Iran,” noting that the Iranian president and the speaker of parliament have publicly acknowledged that their country’s economy is facing difficulties.

He added that the Iranian currency has collapsed, while inflation has exceeded 100%, arguing that Iranian authorities are unable to pay the salaries of their forces.

Bessent clarified that the United States is currently imposing unprecedented sanctions on Iran, asserting that U.S. measures will “strangle the regime” and cut off all ties connecting it to the outside world.

He said Washington would systematically target every entity dealing with Iran and work to remove them from the scene, adding: “We all want this conflict to end, and the fastest way to end it is if no one provides any support to the Iranian regime.”

The U.S. Treasury Secretary addressed both friends and adversaries alike, saying, “Do not deal with the evil Iranian regime,” warning entities engaging with Iran: “We know who you are, and you know who you are, and if we have to, we will remove you from doing business.”

He pointed out the deployment of teams from the U.S. Departments of the Treasury, State, and Defense around the world as part of actions against Iran, explaining that Washington is holding extensive talks with all supporters of the Iranian regime.

He further noted that the United States has established new authorities for the Treasury Department, enabling it to impose sanctions in sectors including aviation companies, the maritime sector, and digital assets.

Regarding China’s stance on the Strait of Hormuz, Bessent said he was not concerned by Beijing’s decision not to join the other G20 members who agreed in a final statement on the necessity of keeping the strait open and ensuring freedom of navigation.

He added: “It is unfortunate that the Chinese did not wish to join this consensus, but I believe that is their choice.”
