Trump: US strikes Iranian targets near Strait of Hormuz... any retaliation will face harsher strikes

In response to an attempt to lay mines and the firing of eight rockets... and a larger attack “in the wings”

US President Donald Trump announced that the United States is currently carrying out strikes on Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz, describing the strikes as “large and powerful.”

Trump said, in a post on the “Truth Social” platform, that the strikes were in response to what he described as a failed Iranian attempt to lay additional naval mines in the strait, which he confirmed had been cleared of mines after they were removed or completely detonated. The strikes were also in response to Iran’s firing of eight rockets toward a US military base in Jordan, noting that all of them were successfully intercepted.

Trump warned Iran, which he described as a “failed state,” against retaliating for the attack, stating that any response would be met with strikes “much harsher and more powerful.”

He added that these strikes would not be the “larger attack,” pointing to a bigger attack “in the wings,” and threatening that once it was over, “very little would remain of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
