Turkish Minister of Transport Announces Project to Revive the Historic Hejaz Railway
Turkish Minister of Transport Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced on Tuesday the “Development Road Project” to revive the historic Hejaz Railway, which extends to Medina, with the aim of boosting trade and transport flows between Turkey and the Gulf Arab states, as well as supporting and strengthening regional economic integration.
Uraloğlu stated in a post on the X platform that the historic Hejaz Railway bears the imprint of a venerable civilization, celebrating its 118th anniversary, as it was built during the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid II. It also witnessed the final phase of the Ottoman Empire and the solidarity of the Muslim community.
Turkey and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement last June to enhance bilateral cooperation in transport and logistics, including the reactivation of the Hejaz Railway line.
