Four New Power Plants to Serve Al-Wafra Agricultural Project

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy plans to install four main high-voltage substations to develop the Al-Wafra agricultural project and provide the nutrients and accessories required by the planned installations.

In this context, the Ministry has initiated the tendering process for the installation of these substations by requesting the Central Tenders Board, last week, to approve the issuance of the tender to classified companies specializing in the supply and installation of such stations.

For its part, the Board has deferred its approval pending receipt of a subsequent letter from the Ministry containing the amendments discussed for the tender announcement, as well as the deadlines for bid submission and closing, the preparation of the technical recommendation, and the decision to award the contract to the bid that meets the technical specifications.

The implementation of the substation installation project comes within the framework of the Ministry’s commitment to providing and enhancing electrical power for all sectors, including the agricultural sector, which the state relies on to achieve food security. These substations will help prevent and reduce power outages in Al-Wafra by supplying the necessary energy to expand high-voltage and extra-high-voltage electrical networks, particularly since the area is experiencing a steady increase in energy demand.

Meanwhile, the Ministry is nearing the completion of the tender procedures for the maintenance of street lighting equipment in the Capital Governorate, at a cost of 1.349 million dinars. The tender was recently referred to the Court of Audit for review, audit, and approval of the contract to commence the work.

This tender is among those executed by the Distribution Networks Sector. It includes periodic maintenance of main and secondary street lighting equipment, daily network surveys, fault detection and repair, handling traffic accidents involving street lighting poles or supply boxes, ensuring safety, as well as raising and installing lighting poles in dark areas and regions requiring infrastructure upgrades.
