We eliminated an imminent threat to protect civilian mariners and commercial shipping traffic

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced today that U.S. forces carried out a limited and precise operation against Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps forces that were laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, posing an imminent threat to navigation.

CENTCOM stated that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s claim that the U.S. strikes constituted an “aggressive act” was baseless, emphasizing that Iran itself created the threat by laying mines in the strait.

It added that the U.S. military acted to remove this threat in order to protect civilian mariners and commercial shipping traffic, and to ensure the free flow of global trade.
