US official: We bombed two Iranian Revolutionary Guard missile launchers that were preparing to deploy naval mines toward the Strait of Hormuz

A U.S. official told Al Jazeera on Sunday that U.S. forces struck two Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) missile launchers on Larak Island, noting that they were preparing to fire missiles carrying naval mines toward the Strait of Hormuz.

The official added that U.S. forces had completed the removal of mines from international shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz as part of maritime navigation security operations, emphasizing that they are closely monitoring the area and remain ready to protect the free flow of trade through the Strait of Hormuz.

In the same context, Axios cited a U.S. official as saying that the United States had detected the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ preparations to launch missiles toward the Strait of Hormuz, adding that U.S. forces targeted two Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island.

Meanwhile, the Fars News Agency reported hearing explosions near Larak Island, while Tasnim News Agency stated that two people were killed in a U.S. attack on the island.

For his part, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it would respond to the U.S. attack on Larak Island, noting that several of its fighters and civilians were killed and injured in what it described as an “enemy attack” on the island.
