'Ministry of Health': Ministerial decree to regulate the trade of prescription veterinary medicines and strengthen oversight

- Dispensing of specified drug categories is permitted only with a prescription from a licensed veterinarian, alongside tracking drug movements and monitoring inventory.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi, issued a ministerial decision to regulate the trade of prescription veterinary medicines and strengthen oversight of their dispensing and tracking, thereby contributing to consolidating the responsible use of veterinary drugs.

The Ministry of Health stated that the decision aims to enhance health and food security and consolidate the responsible use of veterinary medicines in accordance with the "One Health" concept. It noted that regulating their use helps protect human health by improving the safety of animal products and curbing the unregulated use of antimicrobials.

It added that the decision emphasizes compliance with withdrawal periods for drugs where applicable, which supports the safety of animal-origin products and protects public health, while also supporting efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance and promote their rational use.
