Nepal: Flood death toll rises to 626, with 2,426 missing

The death toll from the catastrophic floods that struck border areas in Nepal has risen to 626, with 2,426 people still missing, according to the latest figures released by Nepal’s Department of Disaster Management on Saturday.

The department stated that search and rescue operations continue in the affected areas, though teams are facing difficulties due to poor weather conditions and rising river levels, amid fears of further flooding.

Authorities noted that the disaster, triggered by a glacial outburst that caused a massive surge of water and debris, has caused widespread destruction to infrastructure, homes, and bridges in areas near the border with China.
