Al-Nu'man: 'Al-Bayan' Regains Its Historical Form and Keeps Pace with the Cultural Landscape
In a move aimed at preserving its identity and intellectual heritage, Nawaf Al-Namous, editor-in-chief of Al-Bayan magazine, confirmed that the publication, issued by the Kuwaiti Writers Association, has returned to its traditional format, known for its long-standing page size, number of pages, artistic layout, and indexing. This is the format from which it launched and which it maintained for years, in a step aimed at preserving its visual identity and intellectual legacy.
Al-Namous explained that the magazine is keen to dedicate a "special file" in each issue to a specific personality or cultural issue, featuring contributions from a select group of writers and intellectuals. He noted that the June issue featured a file on the writer and researcher Yahya Al-Rabiean, while the July issue commemorated the 100th anniversary of the publication of "History of Kuwait" by historian Abdulaziz Al-Rashid, considered one of the most prominent works that documented Kuwait’s history and contributed to preserving its cultural memory.

He emphasized that the magazine is also keen to honor pioneers and prominent writers. In its July issue, it commemorated the memory of poet Yaqoub Al-Sibai through a feature covering his biography and literary contributions, as a tribute to his output and status within the Kuwaiti cultural movement.
He pointed out that the August issue dedicated a special file to mark the 36th anniversary of the brutal Iraqi invasion and the recollection of the steadfastness and heroism demonstrated by Kuwaitis. He clarified that the file did not limit itself to retelling historical events, but rather examined that period through impressions, stories, and human narratives recounted by writers and intellectuals who lived through that era, offering a documentary and literary treatment different from the traditional approach.
Al-Namous confirmed that the magazine pays attention to global cultural occasions. It has celebrated World Poetry Day and World Theatre Day in some of its issues, and will also celebrate World Translation Day in the upcoming September issue through special files and articles highlighting the importance of these occasions and their role in enhancing culture, creativity, and intercultural dialogue.
He explained that "Al-Bayan" is not limited to publishing cultural files and literary studies, but also documents the cultural events and activities organized by the Kuwaiti Writers Association, alongside tracking the participation of association members in cultural forums and gatherings within Kuwait and abroad, reflecting the active presence of Kuwaiti writers on both the Arab and international stages.
Al-Namous noted that the magazine pays attention to external cultural affairs by publishing interviews with Arab and foreign writers and intellectuals, as well as articles and studies addressing the most prominent intellectual, literary, and cultural issues on the Arab and international stages, thereby opening new horizons for the reader.
He mentioned that the magazine is also keen to highlight the literary and cultural achievements of Kuwaiti intellectuals and writers by spotlighting their new publications and following their wins of literary and cultural awards and honors, contributing to documenting their accomplishments and raising awareness of them.
