'Ministry of Electricity and Water': Fiber optic project enters 51 residential areas

- The Ministry proceeds with remote management of the system

- Ultra-high-speed network connects power stations to control centers

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy has carried out works to supply and lay terrestrial fiber optic cables to connect main substations and power stations to monitoring and control centers in 51 residential areas across the six governorates, from January until the end of August this year, with varying numbers of segments from one area to another.

The project is part of the Ministry’s strategic plan aimed at achieving full digital transformation, which contributes to enhancing the efficiency of the communication infrastructure supporting operational systems and its facilities in various areas, particularly residential ones, and strengthening operational efficiency, control, and remote management of the electrical system.

Advanced Network

The project provides the necessary infrastructure to establish an advanced, ultra-high-speed, high-bandwidth, multi-service, and multi-path communication network that links monitoring and control centers with power stations, desalination plants, and main substations connected to them, as well as the Ministry’s external sites. It also enables the Ministry to exert tight control over the power supply system, starting from power generation stations, passing through the extra-high and high-voltage electrical network, and reaching the 11 kV network.

The Ministry is executing the works through two contracts for the supply and laying of fiber optic cables between existing main substations. The scope of work includes excavation and laying of terrestrial cables to connect main substations and power stations to monitoring and control centers via designated cable routes.

The works also include replacing the existing ground wire on the Ministry’s overhead lines with a fiber-optic ground wire equipped with fiber optics, thereby enhancing the reliability of the communication network and the speed of data transfer between system facilities.

Power restored to Al-Dajeej

On another note, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy announced the restoration of electricity today to the affected parts of the Al-Dajeej area, following the outage of five feeders due to a technical fault.

The fault had caused power outages in limited parts of the area, while the Ministry’s emergency teams were present on-site to address the issue and restore power supply.
