'Zakat Salwa' Launches Project for a Comprehensive Humanitarian Village in Yemen
The project includes 10 houses, a mosque, and an artesian well to serve needy families and improve their living conditions.
Salwa Zakat, under the auspices of Al-Najat Charity Association, launched the “Salwa Humanitarian Village” project in Yemen under the slogan “Kuwait is by your side.” The project comprises 10 houses, a mosque accommodating approximately 145 worshippers, and an artesian well benefiting 385 people.
Engineer Thamer Al-Sahib, Director of Salwa Zakat, stated that the village concept was conceived in response to the difficult humanitarian reality faced by many Yemeni families, particularly those who are self-respecting and reside in dilapidated housing or informal settlements lacking the most basic amenities for a decent life.
He explained that each house in the village consists of two bedrooms, a living room, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a courtyard, providing adequate living space that helps families stabilize in a safer and more private environment.
He noted that the project extends beyond housing, featuring a mosque that serves as a center of worship for the village residents and strengthens both religious and social aspects. Additionally, the artesian well benefits residents, livestock, and birds, emphasizing that water is a fundamental element for human stability and the improvement of health and living conditions.
Al-Sahib clarified that the beneficiary groups include self-respecting families, families without heads, low-income households, those in need, and the sick. He affirmed that beneficiary selection prioritizes directing support to the most vulnerable categories to achieve the maximum possible impact.
He added that such projects contribute to combating informality and improving the residential environment by relocating families to organized units equipped with basic necessities, thereby positively reflecting on family health and psychological and social stability.
He emphasized that the project aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals by providing adequate housing, improving access to water, enhancing health, and promoting social stability. He pointed out that modern charitable work is no longer limited to immediate relief but has evolved into creating sustainable solutions that address the root causes of need.
