Trump: Iran is killing its citizens at unprecedented levels and the humanitarian crisis must be halted immediately

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Iran is killing its own citizens, even those not participating in protests, at unprecedented levels, emphasizing the need to immediately halt what he described as a “humanitarian crisis” in the country.

Trump added in a post on his Truth Social account that Iran is unable to pay the salaries of large segments of its military.

Trump wrote: “The struggling Islamic Republic of Iran is not paying the salaries of large segments of its military, while at the same time killing protesters—even in cases where they are not participating in demonstrations—at unprecedented levels. It is a massive humanitarian crisis, and it must be stopped immediately.”

The United States announced on Monday the imposition of new sanctions on 60 individuals, entities, and a ship linked to Tehran, in a move it said aimed at cutting off Iran’s economic lifeline.
