56 Contracts for the Development and Modernization of the Electricity Distribution Network

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy’s plan includes 56 contracts under the current fiscal year’s agreements to develop and upgrade the electricity distribution network. These contracts are scheduled to be tendered through the Central Tenders Committee to companies classified with the Committee.

The contracts’ objectives focus on maintaining secondary substations in the Al Ahmadi, Capital, Mubarak Al-Kabeer, Farwaniya, and Hawalli governorates, in addition to maintaining lighting equipment in several areas, maintaining cables, excavation works, laying conduits, and constructing manholes for control cable routing across all governorates, as well as supplying fault detection devices for overhead lines.

Distribution networks are among the key facilities in the electricity grid, responsible for delivering electrical current from transmission stations to various residential sectors. This requires continuous updates and development so that the electricity distribution network sector can fulfill its role in addressing and restoring power in the event of outages, supplying new customers, conducting necessary studies on electrical load growth, and performing other tasks assigned to the sector.

On another note, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy announced today that a feeder at the main substation in As-Sadiq (A) was taken out of service due to a technical fault. The ministry clarified that this resulted in a power outage affecting limited parts of Al-Zahraa Area (Plot 2).

It added that its emergency teams were present at the site and working to restore power as quickly as possible.

The ministry later announced in the afternoon that power had been restored to part of Al-Zahraa Area (Plot 2), with full restoration underway as soon as possible.
