US Treasury Secretary: We will begin today the 'largest financial sanctions in history' against Iran
-Our goal is to cut off every economic lifeline to Tehran, and any country that facilitates the flow of funds to it will share in its isolation.
-Trump will respond swiftly and firmly to any Iranian attack targeting U.S. forces or Gulf states.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the United States would begin at dawn today “the largest financial blockade in history” against Iran, emphasizing that the objective is to sever every economic lifeline to Tehran and impose broad financial isolation on the country.

Bessent stated that “Iran’s day of economic reckoning is coming,” warning that any country that serves as a financial lifeline for Tehran or facilitates the flow of funds to it would face consequences and share in its isolation, noting that countries continuing to support the Iranian regime “are exceeding the limits of U.S. tolerance.”
He added that any country supporting Iran would be viewed by Washington as “globally ostracized,” calling on U.S. allies and the rest of the world to cut commercial ties with Tehran, and pointing out that countries severing their financial and commercial links with Iran would contribute to revitalizing their own economies.
He argued that the financial isolation Washington intends to impose on Iran would render the use of force unnecessary, stating that President Donald Trump “has crippled the Iranian economy to an unprecedented degree,” and that the next phase would reveal whether Tehran’s allies are willing to bet on it.
On the military front, the Treasury Secretary warned that any Iranian military action against U.S. forces or Gulf states would be met with a swift and resolute response from President Trump, affirming that Washington would respond in kind if Iran attacked its forces or its neighbors in the Gulf.
