Good Opinion of Allah, the Exalted

“Say, ‘O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.’” (Surah Az-Zumar, 53).
The noble Prophetic Hadith states: “The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, liked good omens and disliked superstition.”
Among good omens is the Muslim’s good opinion of Allah, the Exalted. In my view, this brings peace to the human heart, especially for those burdened with worries that may begin to turn into deep sorrow.
Among the principles of having a good opinion of Allah, the Exalted, we mention the following:
- Do not despair of Allah’s mercy: A person despairs when they lose hope in Allah’s mercy, whether due to prolonged trials, loss of hope, or any reason that leads a person to despair of something happening or ending in their life. This may also result from repeated exposure to worldly calamities. However, the wise know that the trials and hardships a Muslim faces, which they may mistakenly believe are happening to them alone without a clear reason, are merely divine tests aimed at teaching patience, expiating sins, or are subtle divine graces whose benefits are only understood years after they have passed. Therefore, a Muslim should not despair, for every divine decree in their life is ultimately good.
- Life, death, and sustenance are in Allah’s hands: I believe that a rational Muslim in today’s turbulent world should consider it one of their fundamental life goals to firmly establish in their heart the conviction that their life, death, and sustenance are not in the hands of other human beings, but in the hands of their Creator. No individual dies before their appointed time, nor is their divinely granted sustenance withheld.

- Having a good opinion of Allah and convincing the mind and heart: Perhaps the most difficult challenge a Muslim facing a difficult life circumstance can encounter is convincing their suffering self to maintain a good opinion of Allah, the Exalted. However, I believe that the more one strives to strengthen their faith through obedience to Allah, maintaining a good opinion of Him, persistently seeking forgiveness, never ceasing from supplication and remembrance, and placing true reliance on Allah, the mind and heart will inevitably come to believe, even if the latter is filled with intense despair. Have a good opinion of Allah, and may your hands be blessed.
