Green Finance and Sustainability Standards on the Agenda of the 'Global Investment Summit 2026'

The World Investment Summit 2026 will discuss the future of climate-related and sustainable investment on its first day in Paris, held on September 1 and 2. The summit will feature more than 2,000 participants, 100 speakers, over 10 main sessions, 16 workshops, and more than 40 bilateral meetings.

On the first day, a dialogue session titled “Climate, Sustainability, and the Green Investment Agenda” will bring together a select group of investors, experts, and policymakers to examine the standards that enhance the reliability of green projects and increase their ability to attract institutional financing, amid growing global interest in responsible investments and the shift toward more sustainable economic models.

In a press statement yesterday, the summit’s organizing body said the session will focus on how sustainability is transitioning from a general framework for environmental commitments to a key factor in investment decisions. This transition will be driven by the development of clearer standards for transparency and measurement, helping investors assess projects and their adherence to environmental goals, while determining their capacity to generate economic returns alongside sustainable impact.

Participants will explore the factors that make green projects more reliable and attractive to capital, the role of measurable data and indicators in evaluating performance, and the importance of clear frameworks that enable financial institutions and investors to distinguish between projects with genuine impact and initiatives lacking precise standards for measuring outcomes.

The statement added that this trend is linked to broader transformations in the global economy, with rising volumes of capital flowing into clean energy, sustainable infrastructure, and technologies related to emission reductions and resource efficiency. This makes sustainability an increasingly influential factor in evaluating investment opportunities and shaping financing trends in the coming years.

The World Investment Summit has placed this issue among its main priorities, aiming to direct 25% of investments toward modern technologies and adopting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) sustainability standards in 55% of targeted projects. This strategy supports the development of projects with higher efficiency, greater longevity, and long-term economic impact.

These targets reflect the summit’s focus on linking economic growth with sustainability requirements, as governance standards and environmental and social impact have become essential components of investment decisions for many institutional investors and global funds, particularly when evaluating long-term projects and sectors related to energy, infrastructure, and modern technologies.

The summit will host more than 2,000 participants, 100 speakers, over 10 main sessions, 16 workshops, and more than 40 bilateral meetings, featuring officials, investors, business leaders, and economic institutions from the Gulf region and Europe. This provides a direct platform for dialogue on investment opportunities, building relationships between capital providers and promising sectors, and developing partnerships that go beyond traditional networking events.

The summit’s agenda covers a broad range of economic and investment issues linked to the future of global capital, including technology, artificial intelligence, energy, tourism, real estate, advanced industries, health, and the cultural and creative economy, alongside climate and sustainability topics that are increasingly intertwined with financing decisions and investor trends.

The summit will also announce a number of new initiatives across multiple sectors, including energy, culture, investment, and technology, as well as initiatives related to sustainable development and the creative economy. This step aims to translate the discussions raised in sessions and workshops into actionable pathways that can be built upon and developed through future partnerships and projects.

Through its session on “Climate, Sustainability, and the Green Investment Agenda,” the summit seeks to provide a clearer understanding of the relationship between sustainability and capital, and how precise standards, transparency, and impact measurement can enhance the attractiveness of green projects to investors, opening up broader sources of financing and strengthening the presence of green investment on the global economic landscape in the coming period.
