7 killed, including two officers, in collision between police patrol and car in England

Seven people, including two police officers, were killed on Saturday in a collision between a police car and a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on a major road in north-east England, according to Reuters.

Cleveland Police said the crash occurred at around 3:39 a.m. local time near South Bank, east of Middlesbrough, adding that all occupants of both vehicles died.

Cleveland Police Chief Victoria Fuller said, “This tragic incident will leave an impact across Cleveland, within our communities, and throughout the entire police force.”

The police added that they are still investigating the circumstances of the crash and are working to officially identify all the victims.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in the UK is expected to review the incident, in line with standard procedures in such cases.
