Tesla prepares to launch its 'Semi' electric truck in Europe
After years of delays and anticipation, Tesla is preparing to bring its heavy-duty electric truck, the Semi, to the European market, a move through which it plans to reveal further details and technical specifications at the IAA Transportation show in the German city of Hanover next month.
Tesla announced its plans to participate in the commercial vehicle exhibition, scheduled for September 15–20, via its X platform on Thursday, with a dedicated press day on September 14.
The company first unveiled the Semi in 2017, initially planning to begin production in 2019. However, its launch was postponed multiple times, with Tesla noting at one stage that batteries were in greater demand for other vehicles, including its best-selling Model 3.
Production on a broader scale for the truck began in Nevada, USA, in April of this year. The company has already delivered its first Semis to customers in the United States, including the food and beverage company PepsiCo.
Tesla states that its electric truck boasts an estimated range of approximately 800 kilometers on a single charge.
In the European market, the Semi is expected to face competition from electric trucks already offered by European manufacturers.
Tesla had previously showcased the Semi at the IAA Transportation show two years ago.
