12 Arab and Islamic countries condemn Israeli airstrikes on Abu al-Duhur base in Syria: a highly dangerous escalation
- Called on the international community to adopt a firm stance in the face of ongoing aggression and to ensure the withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas they have occupied.
Twelve Arab and Islamic countries strongly condemned in a joint statement issued on Friday the Israeli airstrikes that targeted the Abu al-Dhaher military base in northwestern Syria.
The statement was issued by the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Algeria, Lebanon, Palestine, Mauritania, Somalia, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Pakistan.
The ministers considered these attacks to constitute a highly dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political unity, expressing deep concern over the continued targeting of Syrian territory and infrastructure and the undermining of its capacities.
They affirmed that these acts entail direct risks that could weaken Syria’s efforts to restore security, rebuild national institutions, and address the humanitarian consequences resulting from years of prolonged conflict.
The ministers stressed that Israel’s continued violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity threaten to further escalate tensions, undermine regional peace and stability, and weaken respect for international law and the principles of the UN Charter.
They called on the international community to adopt a firm, clear, and principled stance in the face of ongoing aggression against Syria, and to take concrete steps in accordance with international law and the UN Charter to put an end to these violations, ensure full respect for the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, and guarantee the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied areas, thereby preventing further escalation and safeguarding regional peace and stability.
They also emphasized the necessity of respecting Syria’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and political unity, reaffirming their rejection of any attempt to undermine these principles.
