Ambassador Belhadj on “Mujahid Day”: Historical ties rooted between our two countries

Preparations are underway for meetings of the Joint Committee, chaired by the finance ministers

The Algerian Ambassador to Kuwait, Omar Belhadj, revealed that discussions are ongoing to launch a direct air route between Kuwait and Algeria soon, emphasizing that this step will facilitate economic and tourist exchanges, serve the Algerian community and investors, and open broader horizons for cooperation between the two countries.

Belhadj, in a speech delivered yesterday morning during the embassy’s celebration of “Mujahid Day,” which falls on August 20 each year, and in the presence of members of the Algerian community, noted that the Kuwaiti-Algerian Joint Committee is preparing to hold its upcoming meetings, chaired by the finance ministers of both countries, to follow up on investment and trade cooperation files.

Historical ties

Belhadj affirmed the depth of Kuwaiti-Algerian relations, describing them as historical and deeply rooted, and praised the honorable positions taken by Kuwait, both leadership and people, in supporting the Algerian liberation revolution and backing the Algerian cause until independence was achieved. He also referred to his recent meeting with the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Arab Affairs to discuss common files, commending the care afforded to the Algerian community in Kuwait.

He called on members of the community to continue complying with laws and regulations to serve as the best ambassadors for their country, reaffirming the embassy’s commitment to maintaining constant communication with them and working to meet their needs.

Mujahid Day

Belhadj stressed the importance of “Mujahid Day” in recalling the sacrifices of martyrs and key milestones in the struggle to restore national sovereignty, explaining that August 20 embodies two pivotal events in the history of the Algerian revolution.

He clarified that the attacks in Constantine in 1955 marked a turning point that contributed to expanding the scope of armed struggle and bringing the revolution’s voice to the international community, while the Soummam Conference in 1956 helped establish the organizational and political frameworks for revolutionary action and restructured the wilayas (provinces) and military leadership.
