Officially... Barcelona announces signing of Spanish star Rodri until 2030

After years of brilliance in England and building a legacy with Manchester City, Spanish star Rodri is opening a new chapter in his career, following FC Barcelona’s official announcement of his signing in one of the most prominent deals of the summer transfer window.

The Catalan club stated in an official press release on Tuesday that it had reached an agreement with Manchester City for the Spanish midfielder, signing a contract valid until June 30, 2030.

The announcement came days after the two clubs finalized an agreement, with Manchester City accepting Barcelona’s total offer valued at approximately 76.5 million euros, comprising around 60 million euros in fixed fees, plus potential add-ons.

Rodri, 30, signed his contract with Barcelona until June 2030 after arriving in the city on Monday to complete formal procedures, including medical examinations and contract signing.

The Spanish international expressed his joy at moving to Barcelona, saying upon his arrival: “Playing for Barcelona is a dream come true. I am very happy and excited to work with my teammates.”

Rodri is considered one of the world’s top midfielders, having won the Ballon d’Or in 2024 and been named the best player at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after leading Spain to its second-ever World Cup title.

During his seven seasons at Manchester City, Rodri won 12 major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League and four English Premier League titles.
