Sudanese Ambassador to 'Al-Siyasah': Kuwait Repatriated 1,000 Sudanese Refugees from Uganda to Their Homeland

The Sudanese Ambassador to Kuwait, Awad al-Karim al-Reih, confirmed that Kuwait contributed to the repatriation of 1,000 Sudanese refugees from Uganda back to their homeland, following improvements in the security situation and the return of stability to several areas. He praised Kuwait’s ongoing humanitarian role in supporting the Sudanese people since the outbreak of war on April 15, 2023.

Speaking to Al-Siyasa, he stated that the war led to the displacement of millions of Sudanese to neighboring countries and others, after they suffered serious violations, lost their homes, belongings, and loved ones. This forced large numbers to flee internally within Sudan or seek refuge abroad, with many heading to Uganda.

He clarified that direct directives from Kuwait’s political leadership, channeled through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, facilitated the Sudan Relief Association’s efforts to help 1,000 Sudanese refugees in Uganda return home following the restoration of security and stability. He added that Kuwait’s contribution to repatriating refugees is part of a series of humanitarian initiatives Kuwait has provided to Sudan since the start of the war. He noted that Kuwait organized an air bridge comprising 37 flights carrying aid, and was among the first countries to deliver assistance to Sudan. The first plane of the Kuwaiti air bridge arrived on May 4, 2023, less than a month after the war began.
