Anti-Narcotics Thwarts Smuggling of Nearly Two Kilograms of 'Shabu' Hidden in an Innovative Manner Inside Books

An Asian resident involved in importing the shipment for the purpose of trafficking it within the country was apprehended.

The General Directorate for Combating Narcotics thwarted an attempt to smuggle approximately two kilograms of the narcotic substance “Shabu,” and arrested an Asian national after it was established that he was involved in importing the shipment from an Asian country with the intent to traffic it domestically.

The Ministry of Interior stated in a press release that investigative and surveillance efforts revealed that the shipment had arrived via cargo, with the narcotics cleverly concealed inside several books in an attempt to disguise them and bypass inspection procedures. However, the vigilance of narcotics officers led to the discovery of the drugs and the arrest of the suspect.

It added that the necessary legal measures were taken against the suspect, who was referred along with the seized items to the competent authorities. Coordination was also established with the relevant authorities in the country from which the shipment originated to take the necessary actions regarding the incident.

The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its continued efforts to combat the smuggling and distribution of narcotics, monitor various new methods and techniques used in smuggling, and deal firmly with anyone attempting to import or traffic these substances, thereby contributing to the protection of societal security and the safety of its members.
