As part of its relentless efforts to consolidate Kuwait’s position as one of the world’s most reliable energy suppliers, and within its ambitious strategy aimed at enhancing sustainable production capacity, Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has achieved a qualitative leap and an exceptional milestone in its exploration and operational activities. An official report issued by the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), which Al-Siyasa obtained a copy of, revealed the company’s success in drilling approximately 2,428 wells dedicated to crude oil production, excluding associated gas, over the past five years ending March 31, 2026. The last fiscal year recorded the highest rate, with 751 wells drilled, while the company simultaneously carried out maintenance and repair operations on 2,034 crude oil production wells (excluding associated gas) during the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, alone.
In its strenuous efforts to meet the growing domestic and global demand for energy, the company continued to maintain its distinguished presence in the natural gas sector, encompassing both associated and non-associated gas. The same official report revealed that during the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, the company successfully drilled 57 deep development and exploration wells dedicated to exploring and developing Jurassic gas reservoirs. This figure represents a qualitative leap compared to the approximately 40 wells drilled in the previous fiscal year.

This achievement was realized thanks to KOC’s adoption of advanced technological solutions and relentless efforts to develop infrastructure, as well as the enhancement of integration mechanisms between reservoir management, wells, and surface facilities.
Despite this intensive operational activity and the exceptional performance clearly demonstrated, which proved the production system’s ability to meet annual targets when resources and supply chains are available, the average production of non-associated gas remained stable at levels below the approved annual target (with the application of the reduction allowance) by the end of the fiscal year.
The report clarified that the gap between actual and targeted figures is primarily due to external constraints beyond the company’s direct operational control.
The same report revealed that KOC successfully implemented the strategic replacement project of the low-pressure gas network in the Shuwaikh Industrial Area during the fiscal year ending last March. This project is one of the vital initiatives to ensure the continuity and stability of gas fuel supplies to essential utilities, primarily power generation plants under the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, as well as various industrial consumers. This project contributed to enhancing operational reliability, reducing operational and safety risks, and supporting the long-term sustainability and efficiency of Kuwait’s energy infrastructure.
The report noted that drilling operations saw the introduction of advanced technologies for the first time in the context of Jurassic gas well drilling. These included the application of integrated automated drilling systems that enable real-time connectivity between the wellbore and the surface, thereby improving drilling standards and enhancing operational efficiency. These technologies contributed to reducing drilling time and improving performance, reflecting the company’s orientation toward adopting advanced digital solutions and enhancing performance-based drilling to achieve optimal operational efficiency.
