Alan Perez Torres, the Cuban Ambassador to Kuwait, affirmed that the legacy of Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro remains present a century after his birth, stressing his country’s commitment to the values he defended, foremost among them sovereignty, dignity, social justice, international solidarity, and peace.

This came in a speech delivered by the ambassador at an event commemorating the centenary of Castro’s birth, attended by several ambassadors, personalities, and guests. He said, “To speak of Fidel is to speak of Cuba, but his legacy transcended the island’s borders to become a reference for all who believe in the right of peoples to determine their own destiny and shape their future.”

He pointed out that Castro viewed solidarity as a practical practice, not merely a slogan, clarifying that under his leadership, Cuba shared its personnel, expertise, and knowledge with peoples in Latin America, Africa, and other regions of the world. He noted that Castro’s centenary coincides with a time when Cuba, according to his speech, faces an “adversarial policy and multi-dimensional aggression” from the United States government, reaffirming his country’s continued defense of its sovereignty, independence, and right to choose its own path.

He considered that the best tribute to Castro goes beyond commemorating his memory; it lies in preserving the values he defended and believing in the right of peoples to freedom and to build their future, regardless of the circumstances they face.

He emphasized that a century after his birth, Castro remains part of Cuba’s history and a reference for those who believe in the possibility of building a better world. In conclusion, the attendees watched a documentary film portraying Fidel Castro as a statesman and diplomat.
