Nawaf Salam: Israel must halt escalation... The security of Lebanese citizens and their right to life on their land are not subject to negotiation or compromise
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam affirmed that the Israeli escalation witnessed in the city of Nabatieh, the town of Ansariyeh, Deir el-Zahrani, and the surrounding villages since dawn today, along with the accompanying airstrikes, heavy shelling, and intimidation of residents, is highly dangerous and undermines efforts to stabilize the south.
Salam stated that the victims of the Israeli airstrike on Ansariyeh were civilians, emphasizing that the presence of any military infrastructure on Lebanese territory, if it exists, does not grant Israel the right to violate Lebanese sovereignty and endanger civilians. He stressed that the responsibility for dealing with such threats rests exclusively with the Lebanese state, through its army and legitimate institutions.
He added, “Israel must halt this escalation, as the security of our people and their right to life on their land are not subject to negotiation or compromise.”
