US Department of Defense Boosts Interceptor Missile Production Through Two Agreements with Boeing and RTX

The U.S. Department of Defense, commonly known as the Pentagon, announced on Friday the signing of two framework agreements with aerospace and defense contractor Boeing and defense manufacturer RTX, to boost production of components for ship-launched surface-to-air interceptor missiles.

In a statement, the Pentagon said the two agreements focus on increasing production of key components for Standard-3 Block IB and Block IIA missiles.

It added that the agreements will “enhance production of these vital ship-launched surface-to-air interceptor missiles, which form a cornerstone of the Aegis ballistic missile defense system, and represent the backbone of U.S. naval missile defense capabilities both domestically and abroad.”

In this regard, Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Michael Davi said: “We are working to strengthen supply chain stability, expand munitions production capacity, and place the entire defense industrial base in a war-ready posture.”

He added that the components secured through the two agreements “are a fundamental pillar of U.S. missile defense. Under these new frameworks, Boeing will lead the manufacturing operations for these components, directly accelerating the supply process from factory production lines to the naval fleet.”
