Magnitude 3.9 earthquake strikes Sulaymaniyah in northern Iraq without reported casualties

The Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced on Friday that a 3.9-magnitude earthquake was recorded on the Richter scale in the southwest of Sulaymaniyah Governorate in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, followed by several aftershocks.

The ministry clarified that its seismic observatories recorded the tremor, confirming that it caused no damage, while several aftershocks were registered in the area.

On its part, the Iraqi General Authority for Meteorology and Seismology stated that its observatories recorded the quake at a depth of 9 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface, noting that its epicenter was located near the village of Zanjan, in the Sinaka District, between Kirkuk and Jamjamal in northern Iraq.
