Saudi Arabia condemns the targeting of two Emirati tankers: a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom’s strongest condemnation and denunciation of the targeting of two tankers owned by the UAE’s ADNOC while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as an unacceptable repetition of Iranian attacks on commercial ships and tankers.

In a statement on Friday, the Ministry emphasized that the recurrence of such attacks constitutes a serious escalation and a direct threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation, as well as to global energy supply security. It also represented a grave violation of international laws and norms, and a blatant defiance of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which affirmed the necessity of respecting the rights and freedom of navigation for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, and condemned any measures or threats that could obstruct such navigation.

The Kingdom held Iran fully responsible for the consequences of its continued attacks, calling on it to immediately cease these violations and respect relevant international laws. It reaffirmed that the security of the region and the safety of international navigation are shared responsibilities, and that the continuation of such attacks is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.

The Kingdom renewed its full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates, standing by its side and supporting its measures to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and national assets.
