Firefighters are battling two major blazes in Britain’s West Midlands region on Thursday, amid warnings for residents to stay indoors and keep doors and windows closed due to smoke, according to The Independent.

The newspaper reported that approximately 60 firefighters are tackling a large grass fire near a golf course in Stourbridge, after flames spread across some roads and smoke threatened nearby residential areas. The West Midlands Fire Service stated it was facing “exceptionally high levels of pressure,” with no injuries reported as of the latest update.

Stourbridge Borough Council opened a center to accommodate residents who were forced to leave their homes, while fire crews urged people to avoid the area and keep doors and windows shut in locations affected by smoke.

In Warwickshire, a major emergency was declared due to a large fire in Salford Priors, in the Stratford-on-Avon area, which spread to adjacent outbuildings. Ten fire engines responded, along with police and ambulance services.

Fire crews have urged nearby residents to close doors and windows and stay away from the area as firefighting operations continue.
