Bus of Sao Paulo Club... Loaded with Drugs in Bolivia

The colors of Brazil’s Sao Paulo club were on display, but they concealed a different kind of cargo; Bolivian police discovered dozens of packages of marijuana inside a bus that was scheduled to be used for the team’s transportation during its stay in Bolivia.

Sao Paulo had traveled to Bolivia to face Bolivar the day before yesterday in La Paz, as part of the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana round of 16, the South American equivalent of Europe’s Europa League.

The transportation company Cosmos affirmed that the Brazilian club bears no responsibility for the incident, which was thwarted by police on Sunday, stressing that the team did not use the bus in which the drugs were seized.

In a message addressed to the club, a copy of which was obtained by the Agence France-Presse (AFP), the company stated that “the Sao Paulo team did not use this bus; another bus was designated for them.”

It added: “We clarify that full responsibility lies with the Bolivian drivers.”

Police stopped the bus, which bore Sao Paulo club logos according to images released by authorities, in Via Tunnari, a coca-producing area in the Cochabamba department in central Bolivia.
