Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs Ambassador Samih Hayat affirmed that Kuwaiti-Chadian relations are historical and extend over decades, noting that Kuwait was among the first countries to welcome and support Chad’s independence. Official diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1970, though ties between them date back even further.
Speaking to journalists while attending the Chadian Embassy’s celebration of the Republic’s National Day, Hayat stated that bilateral relations are poised for further development and prosperity, driven by a shared commitment to expanding areas of cooperation and enhancing mutual interests.
Investment Opportunities
Hayat clarified that the Kuwaiti side is currently discussing investment matters with the Chadian Ambassador. The Chadian government will present offers detailing available investment opportunities, paving the way for an assessment of their economic feasibility and discussions between the governments of both countries, including through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.
He emphasized that the recruitment of Chadian labor is a key topic on the bilateral cooperation agenda and will be discussed during upcoming political consultations between the foreign ministries, including opportunities to utilize skilled Chadian workers and others to meet labor market needs.

For his part, Dr. Taher Al-Nafez Khatir, the Ambassador of the Republic of Chad to Kuwait, affirmed that relations between the two countries are good, longstanding, historical, and friendly, witnessing continuous development through projects, agreements, mutual visits, and cooperation in various fields. He pointed out that cooperation includes projects by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, as well as activities carried out by Kuwaiti charitable organizations in Chad, reaffirming his country’s aspiration to expand cooperation areas.
Khatir revealed that projects are under discussion to recruit Chadian labor to Kuwait, confirming that “once signed, they will be implemented immediately.”
He noted that approximately 1,500 Chadian citizens currently work in Kuwait, including experts in oil, telecommunications, and law, while most members of the community work in simple trades and jobs, including driving.
Rejection of Attacks
Regarding his country’s stance on the Iranian attacks against Kuwait, Khatir stated that Chad has called for restraint, negotiation, and the search for peaceful solutions since the beginning of the crisis. He reaffirmed his country’s rejection of attacks on the sovereignty of nations and urged all parties to sit at the negotiating table and work toward establishing peace.
On the security and political situation in Chad, which is celebrating the 66th anniversary of its independence, he explained that his country is surrounded by hotspots of tension and conflict in Sudan, Libya, and Nigeria, where the “Boko Haram” group is active. He highlighted Chad’s contribution of armed forces to efforts to restore security and peace in several regions, emphasizing its commitment to de-escalation and conflict resolution.
On the economic front, Khatir invited Kuwaiti investors to invest in Chad, noting that Kuwait was among the first countries to invest there. He said: “We always urge our brothers in Kuwait, during our meetings with them, to invest in their second country, Chad. We provide them with numerous guarantees to protect their funds, facilitate investment, streamline administrative procedures, and reduce taxes, encouraging them to take this step.”
He clarified that his country possesses significant potential in agriculture and livestock farming, and is ready to cooperate with Kuwait in the fields of food security and renewable energy, in a manner that serves mutual interests.
Khatir revealed that he held discussions with the Kuwait Livestock Company, which expressed its willingness to cooperate and send a delegation to Chad to explore available opportunities and potential. He also mentioned talks with the General Authority for Investment, describing its stance as “excellent,” as well as discussions with the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry regarding cooperation and investment opportunities.
On the possibility of opening a direct flight route between the two countries, Khatir explained that discussions are underway with Kuwait Airways on the matter. He pointed out that daily flights already connect the two countries via EgyptAir and Ethiopian Airlines, emphasizing that enhancing air connectivity would bolster economic and trade cooperation and increase interaction. In conclusion, Khatir expressed his gratitude to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, His Highness the Crown Prince, the Kuwaiti government, and the Kuwaiti people for their cooperation with his country and for the warm hospitality extended to the Chadian community.
