Pakistan: Houthi attacks pose a serious threat to freedom of navigation and maritime security in the Red Sea

- After the killing of three of its citizens in an attack on a commercial vessel

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Wednesday that three Pakistani citizens were killed in a Houthi attack on a commercial ship in the Red Sea.

Dar strongly condemned the attack on a non-military commercial vessel, stressing that such attacks endanger the lives of innocent civilians, violate international law, and pose a serious threat to freedom of navigation, maritime security, and the safety of commercial shipping traffic in the Red Sea.

He added that Pakistan is in contact with Saudi authorities and the internationally recognized Yemeni government to ascertain the details and circumstances of the incident.

He noted that he had directed the Pakistani Embassy in Riyadh to coordinate immediately with the relevant authorities to repatriate the bodies of the three Pakistani citizens to Pakistan, as well as to provide assistance to the injured.
