US State Department: Revocation of visas for over 175,000 foreigners during the Trump era

The U.S. Department of State announced on Monday the cancellation of entry visas to the United States for more than 175,000 foreigners during the presidency of Donald Trump.

In a statement, the ministry said these measures are part of a comprehensive immigration campaign that has deprived tens of thousands of individuals of travel and immigration privileges to the United States.

The statement added that the targeted visas included those of foreign nationals who violated the terms of their stay, committed crimes, incited violence against U.S. citizens, defrauded Americans, abused the immigration system, or posed a threat to U.S. national security.

It clarified that the cancellation of most visas followed “encounters between the targeted individuals and law enforcement authorities,” noting that the primary reasons included “committing assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, theft, and drug-related crimes.”

It affirmed that the cancellations result from continuous vetting procedures conducted by the State Department to ensure visa holders comply with the terms of their visas and do not pose any threat to public safety.

The Trump administration has adopted an immigration policy that includes accelerating deportations and halting the release of undocumented immigrants after they cross the border.

Under the previous administration, U.S. authorities allowed immigrants who crossed the border illegally to remain in the country while awaiting judicial decisions on their cases, following brief detention at the border.
