Kuwait will begin its defense of the Zain Premier League title for the 2026-2027 season with a strong match against Al-Arabi in the first round, scheduled to kick off on August 25 and 26. Al-Qadsiah will be the opponent in the second round, while fans will witness the "Derby" between the traditional rivals, "Al-Akhdar" (Green) and "Al-Asfar" (Yellow), in the seventh round.

The draw was held today at the St. Regis Kuwait hotel, attended by Diyan Al-Dayan, Vice Chairman of the Union’s Board of Directors for Administrative and Financial Affairs; Dr. Saleh Al-Majroub, General Secretary; Dr. Sattam Al-Sahli, Media Director; Dr. Hamed Al-Shaybani, Competitions Director; and representatives of the participating clubs.
The league competition will be divided into two sections, following the increase in the number of teams to 12, after relegation was canceled last season and two teams were promoted from the First Division, whose matches are currently ongoing.
According to the schedule, the competition is set to conclude on May 30, 2027. Two rounds will be played in August, one in September, four in October, three in November, and one in December to conclude the first section.
In the new year, 2027, no rounds will be held in January to coincide with Kuwait’s participation in the Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia. Three rounds will be played in February and two in March, while three rounds will take place in April and three in May.
On another note, the Union has decided to change the format of the Amir Cup and Crown Prince Cup to a group system, whereas they were previously held in a knockout format in past seasons.
The top four clubs from last season’s league standings—Kuwait, Al-Arabi, Al-Qadsiah, and Kazma—will qualify for the quarter-finals in both tournaments. The remaining clubs will be divided into three groups competing for the remaining quarter-final spots.
For his part, Al-Shaybani stated that the competition system will see two teams relegated to the First Division at the end of the season, with two teams promoted from the First Division.
He added, "We wish success to all teams. God willing, the sports season will be successful and witness a high level of enthusiasm and competition befitting the Zain League and Kuwaiti football."
He noted that the stoppage periods during the season have been factored into the competition schedule, in line with national team commitments and upcoming events, including the Gulf Cup and the Asian Cup.
