Fifth heatwave hits England... Orange health warning covers London and most regions

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued an orange-level health alert on Monday due to rising temperatures across most of England, except for the North East, from tomorrow through next Friday, as the country faces its fifth heatwave of the summer.

In a statement, the agency said temperatures are expected to exceed 30 degrees Celsius, which could significantly impact health and social care services, warning that people aged 65 and over are at greater risk from the health hazards associated with high temperatures.

Earlier this month, orange and yellow heat-related health alerts had been issued for several areas in England and the capital, London.

The British Society for Social Medicine reported in late July that heat-related deaths reached 2,877 during the heatwaves that affected the country in May and June.
